Window Treatments

When my husband and I first bought our home over the summer, we had just found out that we were expecting. We actually put the offer on it and it was accepted before we found out! Talk about some good timing!

The room that we chose for the nursery was used by the previous owners as a guest bedroom.  They had lived in the house since the late 80's.  When they moved out, they left the curtains and rods in all the rooms.  They were pretty, but not my taste, especially for a baby's room.

We took them down when we first painted back in the fall.  They left some pretty large holes in the wall.  I should have closed them up, but I didn't have anything to do it with at the time, and I was so eager to start painting!

I recently found some light and airy curtains at Target (I tried to find them online but couldn't). I couldn't really find any curtain rods that went well with them without looking too heavy.  I decided to use tension rods to hang them instead, but that left the windows looking unfinished, especially with my giant holes in the wall.

My solution: I made something to cover them up.  I purchased stretcher strips from Hobby Lobby (two 40" and two 8" per window).  I assembled the strips and stretched my yellow gingham fabric around the frame and stapled it into place.  I hung them abouve the windows on thumbtacks since they are so light weight. It completely hides the holes =)

Total on this project was less than $30! Not too bad in my opinion.

  8. This is very cool! I've never heard of stretcher strips (I'm not real crafty), but I love the idea of something light weight. I'm also loving the color scheme and accent wall!

  17. Wow! The window treatments that you added were simple, yet really beautiful. It's just perfect for your new baby! Choosing yellow for the nursery is very neutral. Whether it's a boy or a girl, yellow still works either way. Roxie Tenner

  18. What a great project! I had a similar issue with holes left in the wall after taking down the curtains the previous owners had left. We settled on interior shutters for the bedrooms upstairs, but I'd love to use your project as inspiration for the windows in some of the other rooms. Thanks for sharing!

  19. If you have a small window in your bedroom, light and airy curtains are the best pick. They allow more sunlight to enter your room, so that you wouldn't have to use artificial light in the morning. At the same time, they can easily facilitate wind transfer from your room to the outside. That'll be good in those hot summer days.

  20. Your window treatment simply reflects the mood in this room. The place looks very soft and calm. Actually, I can see the area as a future nursery room. What do you think? :) You can really feel the combination of comfort and style. Blue, yellow, and white is without a doubt a perfect match!
