Music Lover's Bowl
My husband and I are big music fans. I sang in choir all through high school and college, while my husband started band in 6th grade and played all the way through college (he's an amazing percussionist!). He is now a band director at the local high school. We are still trying to fix up his office (both at the school and at our new home), so I thought this would make the perfect decoration:
A bowl made from a vinyl record. It was amazingly cheap and easy and FAST!! It actually didn't cost me anything because we have a ton of records, and this one was scratched already. If you don't have any on hand, thrift shops usually have them for sale for next to nothing.
First, I preheated my oven to 200 degrees. Place a mixing bowl upside down onto a baking sheet (this makes it easier to put in and out of the oven. Set your record on top of the bowl. Stick it in to "bake" for 8 minutes. The record will get hot and start to deform around your bowl.
When you take it out of your oven, it should look something like this. Let it cool completely before you take it off the bowl base. After it cools, it is just as strong and sturdy as it was before.
This was so easy to do, and the results are wonderful!
Have fun!
